Sliding scale

I hold a limited number of reduced fee spots via OpenPath and I am glad to talk about it. If cost is the thing standing between you and starting, please ask on the consultation call. That conversation is confidential and it does not affect the care you receive.

A note about out of network therapy

I do not bill insurance directly. That is a deliberate choice, and here is what it means for you.

Staying out of network lets me keep a smaller caseload. In practice, that means I am genuinely available to the people I work with and I have room to be flexible about scheduling rather than fitting you into whatever slot the volume allows.

It also changes who is in the room. When insurance pays, an insurance company decides whether you qualify for care, how many sessions you are allotted, and what kind of therapy you are permitted to receive. Working privately means those decisions stay between us. It also means you do not need a formal mental health diagnosis on file in order to be seen, which is a relief for a lot of people and a meaningful consideration for anyone thinking about future disclosure.

Finally, out of network is often less expensive than it first sounds. Many plans reimburse a real percentage of the session fee, and depending on your deductible and your plan, the difference between seeing me and seeing an in network provider may be smaller than you expect.

Checking your out of network benefits

I use Thrizer to handle payment for private pay sessions. If you have out of network benefits, Thrizer can also check those benefits for you, estimate what a session will actually cost you after reimbursement, and submit eligible claims on your behalf after each session is charged.

Use the tool below to check your estimated benefits and session cost.

Letters, forms, and documentation

I do not take on new clients whose primary need is documentation for a third party. That includes court matters of any kind, fitness for duty or fitness to return evaluations, academic accommodations or course requirements, disability claims, and emotional support animal letters.

This is not a judgment about the need, which is often real and urgent. It is that evaluation and treatment are genuinely different jobs, and doing one well tends to compromise the other. If documentation is what you need, you deserve someone who does that work properly, and I am glad to point you toward one.

If a documentation need comes up during or after our work together, the following fees apply:

  • Preparing a letter for a third party: $100 per letter

  • Completing forms for a third party: $100 per hour

  • Printing and mailing a complete treatment record to a third party: $100

Payment and cancellation

Payment is handled through Thrizer and is processed at the time of each session. Scheduling, our video sessions, and your records all live in SimplePractice, and you will have access to a secure client portal there.

Please cancel or reschedule at least 48 hours ahead. Sessions cancelled with less than 48 hours notice are charged in full. However, if we are able to reschedule to meet before the end of that business week, that session fee can be applied there. Life happens, and if something genuinely unavoidable comes up, talk to me.

A standard session is 50 minutes. If you need a different length, we can arrange it in advance so the time is actually scheduled. If you arrive late, we will still finish at the scheduled time.
