EMDR
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing
EMDR, or Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, is an approach for memories that never fully finished processing. When something overwhelming happens, the brain sometimes stores it raw. Years later a smell, a tone of voice, or a familiar dynamic can put you right back in it, and no amount of knowing better seems to help. That gap between what you know and what you feel is the gap EMDR works in.
It does not require you to narrate the worst thing that ever happened to you in detail. Much of the work is quieter and more internal than people expect.
I am certified through the EMDR International Association and trained in using EMDR alongside polyvagal, somatic, and play therapy approaches, which means we ground the work in your body’s felt sense of safety rather than pushing through. We do not start reprocessing until you have resources in place and we both feel you are ready. Pacing is part of the treatment, not a delay before it.
